Our Baby Puppy Program caters to puppies aged between 8 and 15 weeks, comprising four one-hour lessons. This program is geared towards preparing you and your puppy for your journey together, and focuses on socialisation, basic behaviours, and more. Senior Puppy Program
Our Senior Puppy Program is tailored for puppies aged between 16 and 24 weeks, featuring five one-hour lessons. The objective of this program is to cultivate positive puppy manners, including sitting for guests, walking calmly on the lead, focus work, recall training, and more. Adult Dog Training Program
Our adult dog training program is tailored for dogs aged 7 months and older. In this six-week program, our goal is to address fundamental manners and behaviour management, including loose leash walking, recall with mild distractions, leash etiquette, calm greetings around people and dogs, and additional skills.

Dog Training at Home
If group classes are not feasible for you, or if your dog prefers individual attention, we provide private dog training sessions right in your home. Each session covers the same behaviours taught in group classes, along with educational topics, and the opportunity to address any specific behaviours you'd like to focus on.

🐾 Meet Teddy: Our Long Lead Walking Superstar! 🌟
Teddy is the sweetest Golden Retriever, and I must admit… I absolutely fell in love with him! 🥰🐕
I recently had the pleasure of working with Teddy and his amazing family on lead walking and recall. While Teddy is naturally a calm, good boy, he was pulling a lot on the lead, making walks uncomfortable for his family.
✨ The Solution: We introduced a 10-meter-long lead to give Teddy more freedom to explore at a comfortable pace and length. The transformation was almost instant! Teddy stopped pulling, walked calmly, frequently checked in with his parents, and his recall was fantastic. 🐾🌳
The slower pace made walks enjoyable for everyone. It was such a pleasure to see Teddy thrive and his family smiling! 😊
🐾 A Tip for Lead Walking:
If your dog is pulling, it might not just be a training issue. Often, it’s about comfort and understanding your dog’s needs for choice and control over their environment. Dogs, especially adolescents, can quickly become frustrated when they lack choice.
Providing an appropriate lead length and giving your dog more freedom enhances their walking experience, reduces frustration, and minimizes behavioural issues. Plus, it helps create a confident, emotionally balanced dog who’s less stressed when walking. 🐕✨

While dog parks may seem like a great place to socialize your puppy, they often create more challenges than benefits. Here’s why:
🚨 Risks of Dog Parks:
🐕 Overwhelm: Puppies may feel intimidated by the size, energy, or intensity of other dogs, which can lead to fear or reactivity later in life.
⚠️ Unpredictable Dogs: Not all dogs are friendly, well-trained, or appropriately socialized. Negative encounters can traumatize puppies and hinder their ability to feel safe around other dogs.
🎾 Resource Guarding: Some dogs guard toys or space, which can result in conflicts.

The first 2-3 weeks with your new puppy are crucial for establishing healthy sleep routines. Helping your puppy feel safe and comfortable not only supports their development but also strengthens the bond between you and your furry friend. Plus, when puppies sleep longer, those early morning wake-ups become a thing of the past! 🌙
💡 Here are some tips to get your pup snoozing soundly:
1️⃣ Location is Key:
Let your puppy sleep in the same room as you (or a family member) at night. Puppies are used to sleeping with their littermates, so having you nearby helps them feel safe. 🛌🐕
2️⃣ Set Up for Success:
Keep their sleeping space quiet and away from foot traffic. Create a nearby toileting area with a waterproof mat and fake grass or newspaper. A great setup is placing their crate or pen in your bedroom and a toileting area in an ensuite. 🛏️🚽
3️⃣ Reassure, Don’t Ignore:

This is Freya, the incredibly sweet Great Dane pup, who in just six weeks almost doubled in size! 🐶💕 Watching our pups grow is always amazing, but this was something else. Freya is so calm and incredible, even though her growth must come with some serious growing pains (yes, puppy growing pains are real!).
Since Freya is going to be a big girl, her family wanted to set her up for success with the right foundations. Together, we worked on a positive interrupter, mat training, avoiding jumping, lead walking, and recall—all at Freya’s pace and perfectly suited for a baby puppy. 🐾

In dog training, managing your dog’s environment is key to long-term success! 🏡 This approach helps prevent problematic behaviors from the time your puppy arrives through adulthood. 🐾
So, what is management? 🤔 It’s about adjusting your home setup to prevent behaviors you’re concerned about. This is especially important for puppies, who tend to grow into behaviours rather than out of them.
Some simple ways to manage the environment include:
-Using baby gates 🚪 in rooms or at doors to prevent your pup from running outside
- Adding pet-safe barriers 🌱 around garden beds to keep pups from chewing plants or rocks
- Blocking access 🛑 to areas where your dog might become stressed by people passing by or knocking on the door. Early management here can help prevent watchdog barking!
- Storing valuable or dangerous items out of reach 🔒
- Placing your puppy on a lead🐕 so they are not rehearsing the behaviour of jumping on visitors, whilst training four feet on the floor instead.

🐾 Assistance Dog Training with the lovely Storm 🐾
In this session, we focused on navigating busy shopping centre distractions and helping Storm feel at ease around trolleys, children, and tight spaces. 🛒👶🚶
How did we do it? We started by working with distractions at a distance, pairing them with tasty treats. 🍖 As Storm made progress, we gradually decreased the distance, making sure he wasn’t startled or stressed by the environment. Breaks and rewards were essential to help Storm decompress and not get overwhelmed by the new sights and sounds.
Being a working dog, busy places can be challenging, with so many moving distractions. But Storm, working alongside his dad and getting his favorite treats, handled everything like a pro! 😎
Last week was my final session with Storm, and I'll miss his smiley face and adventurous spirit. Wishing you all the best for your big test, Storm. Go forth and be awesome! 🌟🐾

📢 Is your dog barking a lot? Let’s talk about effective training techniques to help! 🐶
Excessive barking can be challenging, but with the right approach, you can reduce it and create a calmer, quieter environment for you and your dog. Here are some simple tips to get started:
Early intervention and managing the environment is so important:
If your puppy is becoming concerned and barking at people walking past your home or coming to your front door, block access to the area so 1. Your pup isnt rehearsing the behaviour because yes they just get better at it and 2. You can then work out an alternative for your puppy, set up safe zone areas, start working on alternate behaviours and helping your pup feel more comfortable with strangers i.e. a visitor/stranger = a feeling of safety, visitors are my friends, happiness and some yummy chicken.
Identify the cause: Is your dog barking for attention, boredom, frustration, pain or because they’re anxious or scared? Knowing the reason helps you choose the best method and here are some basics to help:
- Consistency is key: Make sure everyone in the household follows the same rules. Consistent responses help your dog learn faster.
- Positive reinforcement: Reward your dog when they are quiet and calm. This encourages more desirable behaviour and reinforces that quiet brings yummy rewards.
Be mindful of attention-seeking barking: Dogs sometimes bark to get your attention. If you respond to it, you’re encouraging the behaviour. Instead, wait until your dog stops barking before giving them attention and its always important to assess why your dog is barking for attention. Some dogs will bark for attention and out of frustration if their needs are not being met.

A huge thank you to the wonderful staff at Kincumber Bus Depot for allowing us the opportunity to help Zen feel comfortable on public transport, which is such an important part of her role as an assistance dog. 🙏❤️

Bus training should always begin in a safe, controlled environment like this bus depot. We start with the bus stationary and the engine turned off to limit stress for the dog and to set their training journey up for success. This allows them to explore at their own pace without the distractions of engine noise, people, traffic, and movement. Remember, when training your dog, it's so important to create an environment where our dog feels safe. Its also important to take it slow and work at their pace. You’ll achieve the most incredible results when you do! 💡🐶

About Consistency – Success in training comes from being consistent with how often you train and when setting boundaries in the home, ensuring that everyone in the family is doing the same . For example, If you don’t want your dog or pup on the sofa, all family members must reinforce this same rule. It can be extremely confusing and frustrating for a dog if they can sometimes but can’t other times, it has to be one way, otherwise we set them up for failure. 🛋️
Consistency extends to verbal and visual cues as well. As an example using different cues for Recall like “Come” versus “Let’s Go” will confuse your dog and delay their progress. Stick to the same verbal and visual cues and watch how quickly they learn! 🐕

Training Tips Tuesday ⏰
Timing is Everything – When rewarding your dog, the treat must be delivered within a couple of seconds of the behaviour for your dog to associate the behaviour with the reward. For example, if you lure your pup into a sit but then take too long to get the treat, they may get distracted, sniff around, or look away, losing the connection between the behaviour you are wanting to work on and the reward. ⏳
To avoid this, have treats easily accessible and reward your dog immediately after they complete the desired behaviour. This speeds up their learning process and makes it clear to your dog, about what they are being rewarded for. 🎉

Originating from the Border Regions of Scotland and England, the Border Collie has been bred for hundreds of years to master the art of herding. The first known Collie, Old Hemp, fathered many of the Border Collies we see today. These highly intelligent dogs were developed to be independent workers, reactive to movement, and incredibly focused.

Training Tips Tuesday🎓
How dogs learn - In simple terms dogs learn in two ways Classical Conditioning (learning by association) i.e. mums jogging shoes appearing means we are going for a walk. And by Operant Conditioning where our dogs learn that a behaviour has a consequence i.e. when I stay on my mat I get a yummy reward.
Why rewarding is important - Rewarding your dog's preferred behaviours not only guides our dogs by letting them know they’re doing the right thing but also encourages them to repeat these behaviours more often. This is crucial when teaching new behaviours or changing undesirable ones. 🐕
Think about it in human terms. If your boss never gave feedback or rewards, you'd feel confused and demotivated. But with recognition and rewards, you'd be clear about what works and continue to perform well. It's the same with your dog! 🏆 Don't be afraid to continue to reinforce your dog to sustain the behaviours you prefer and love too. 💡

We kept it simple and fun, used a long line for freedom to explore, lots of yummy rewards, added movement, plus some basic recall training... and built distractions slowly over time, and Zoe improved massively.
Keep it fun, simple, work at your dogs pace, be consistent too, reward often, and you really will get there 😀

Had the most amazing final lead walking session with Poppy on the weekend.
This incredible pooch and her awesome mumma absolutely smashed their loose lead training, with Poppy offering a loose lead, right next to her mumma for 99% of her walk. A little distraction appeared. Poppy investigated her mum waited, and Poppy walked back to her, ready to go again.
All achieved force free. It's amazing what consistency, yummy treats, and working with our dogs can achieve.

Rockstar Recall - My top five tips !! 😀
1. Never make coming back to you scary, super important, particularly as a pup. Would you want to go back to someone who was yelling at you or angry, probably not right? Use happy excited tones always and make it fun for your pup to come back to you.
2. Be realistic about your expectations and practice regularly. Don't expect your dog to come back to you every time straight away. Recall training takes time, practice, and patience. So.be sure to practice regularly.
3. Set your dog up for success by starting in a low distracting environment first and build the distraction level slowly over time. Your local beach is not the place to start training way too many distractions. Start in a familiar area like your backyard and then move to a familiar, safe, quiet area like a park and always at a quiet time.
4. Use a long line to start the process, and for safety, always attach this to a harness. Long lines keep our dogs safe and allow us to provide distance for Recall training whilst giving our dogs some much needed freedom to explore the environment.
5. Use a high reinforcer. Kibble won't cut it. Keep your extra special treats for your Recall training and reinforce regularly.
But most of all have fun, enjoy training, play Recall games, be consistent, and reward regularly regardless of your dogs age. 🐕 😀🥳

Love is this girl Pippa, the most adorable cuddly love bug ever 🥰❤️
Sessions with Pippa were such a dream. Her lovely mum and dad just wanted to make sure they were giving her the best life ever, were reading her correctly, and keeping her safe out and about. We also worked on some common adolescent behaviours such as building engagement around distractions and some techniques for pulling on lead towards smells and favourite spots for rolling in. Pippa did so well with her training and improved immensely during our three sessions. This was all done using force free training techniques that engage our dogs, make training easy, and keep our fur kids feeling safe and supported. Loose Lead Training with Maverick...well it was meant to be anyway lol 🤣🤣🤣. This completely gorgeous adolescent boy found something more appealing a stick, one of his favourite things, so he laid down and played with this instead. After a few minutes, we went back to training again lol 😆
Sometimes training doesn't always go to plan and you know what that's ok, it happens and there are many reasons why this can happen, perhaps the training session went to long, the environment is not right for your dog as there are too many distractions, your reinforcer does not hold enough value, your dogs tired or perhaps we are tired too. Dogs can become distracted as well, particularly adolescent dogs. If this happens, roll with it and assess what happened. If your dog is engaged with you and ready to move forward, great. If not, that's ok too. You can start again another day.

Oatley - On his first day of assistance dog training. Our first day out is always about monitoring our dogs' stress levels and making sure they feel super comfortable and safe. We do this by giving our dogs lots of breaks, providing yummy treats so our dogs associate the work as a positive, and keeping any new potential triggers to a minimum. Plus, we reward awesome behaviours our dogs offer along the way.

This is George. George has really big feelings about dogs that are too close.Unfortunately, this led to lots of barking and pulling on the lead, which became super hard for his mum and very stressful for George.
So, we worked on building a strong foundation of behaviours first, away from his triggers so George could comfortably redirect to his mum and learn to move with mum when needed. Then, over time, we slowly introduced triggers at a distance. In this session, he saw six dogs at different distance points which was a lot for George but he happily redirected to his mum, moved away from his triggers instead of reacting and was able to recover quickly and continue a wonderful loose lead walk. Reactivity is hard and such a different journey for every dog. Work at your dogs pace and build a strong foundation of behaviours first appropriate for the type of reactivity you are dealing with. There are many force free options out there to do this, attention games and focus work, scatters, pattern games, counter conditioning and desensitisation protocols. Start with your dogs triggers at a distance first, don't overwhelm your dog, then over time, you can work on slowly reducing that distance or access to these triggers, whilst continuing to work on helping your dog feel more comfortable. And yes, you will have good days and really bad days, it's all part of the journey. But it's a journey and one that requires time, patience, and ensuring that your dog feels safe, always.

Last session with the very lovely King this week. We concentrated on using a long line to reduce frustration, pulling, and to enable learning. Strategies for jumping and excitability around visitors, which is hard for King because he's a super social adolescent love bug and a 'let's go' to ask King to move with us when we need him to. Plus some enrichment and puppy chewing strategies.

When it's too hot to walk the kids, the puzzles come out. So love our #ninaottossonpuzzle range it's the best and the pooches just love them.
I mix it up each session by placing one or two out plus some additional homemade games, I just use the puzzles, or we add some nose work in using different boxes.
